I would like to invite you to join me on an adventure of artistic self-discovery.
I’ve been traveling on this path for over 30 years and it never has ceased to amaze me – there is something new and unexpected at every turn of the road.
You may be walking this path for years already and are longing for support, community and companionship. Or you may be brand new to this and are quietly wandering – is this art thing really for me? Don’t I need some extra special talent, like the so and so that used to draw amazingly life-like bunnies in the 3 grade? You may feel – isn’t it too late to embark on such journey? Isn’t only for the young and the reckless that identify themselves as artists?
Let me tell you – creativity is your birthright no matter how old or how artistically gifted you consider yourself to be! Every one has an artist inside and every child knows this instinctually – we just tend forget about it as adults, as we get caught up in the issues and worries of the everyday.
I started drawing at the age of 15 and I did not draw before that at all. I still do not find it particularly easy, such as creating a perfect likeness of something on the spot from my imagination.
Yet when I started to draw and paint it was because I began to feel things deeply, I began to experience the beauty of my inner world, to see this beauty reflected in the world around me. This visual dialogue between my soul and the world continued ever since.
If you feel this call, this inkling, this itch to express something that you can not quite put into words, if you feel this childlike wander and amazement come over you from time to time precipitated by a seemingly mundane visual encounter, if you sense an urge to surrender yourself to beauty at a moments notice – do not hesitate, pick up a pencil and a paintbrush and see what happens.
It does take courage, this simple act of faith in ones own ability to produce meaningful images – yet it also makes one’s life infinitely richer.
I invite you to join me on this journey, lets walk the path together and share our experiences with each other as we discover beauty and meaning within and without, as we build the bridge of images and imagination between our heart and the heart of the world, between your heart and mine.
